Why would you ever want to burn
beeswax candles?
We can hear you asking it.
Why would you give up all of those luscious scents and glorious colours, and pay "extra" to have a candle with no fancy scent and a yellow colour that is going to clash with your decor?
Well, we'll tell you why.
First, let's start with explaining what beeswax is.
Beeswax, as the name implies, is a natural wax created by the worker honey bee.
And boy, does this little guy work hard to make it!
He travels 530,000 kilometres (that's 150,000 miles for our metric-challenged friends out there) to make one pound of beeswax.
One pound!
Beeswax starts out white, but eventually picks up the pigment of the flower pollen which the bees visit and it turns various shades of yellow - depending on the type of flowers from which the pollen is collected.
Okay, so how does that turn into a beeswax candle, and what's the point anyhow?
We're getting to that part.
Once the beeswax cappings are collected (we only use the top layer which the bees use to seal the honey into the honeycomb), the wax is carefully rendered without chemicals to clean out any impurities.
Once that is done, the wax is melted down and poured into molds or dipped repeatedly to make the beeswax candles.
Still with us?
So, now you have this lovingly-created beeswax candle (to order your beeswax candles, click here) and you're not so sure what makes it special.
Well, for starters, did you notice how it smells of cookies and apple pie and popcorn?
Not really?
That's the point.
Lovers of beeswax candles know how toxic fragrances are and steer clear of them!
Having a candle which doesn't cause your neighbours to come looking for baked goods is a good thing.
Beeswax candles won't compromise your indoor air quality either.
Everyday candles can contain many different additives and ingredients, not to mention the wax itself, which emits many harmful pollutants into your home.
If you're an avid candle-burner, you are exposing yourself and your family to all of this unnecessary pollution.
Because quality beeswax candles only contain 100% pure beeswax, they burn clean and will not leach carcinogens into the air.
Beyond the obvious air-quality issues that you can avoid, burning beeswax candles can also help to clean your air.
That's right.
Clean it.
The idea behind this concept is that beeswax, derived from Mother Nature, emits healthy negative ions while it burns.
Those negative ions are heavier than the toxic positive ions contained in mold, odours, dust, viruses and other ickies.
The negative ions grab onto the positive ions and wrestle them down where you can safely vacuum them up to do away with them for good!
This means that if you have allergies, or pets, or if you eat onions a lot, beeswax candles may be just the remedy you're looking for.
Other wonderful side-effects from falling in love with beeswax candles includes combating depression and saving money.
What could be better?
How, you say?
Well, those negative ions that helped to clean your air can elevate your mood too.
And we all know how candles (especially beeswax candles) create a stress-reducing atmosphere, which is why we love them in the first place.
The saving money-part kicks in since beeswax burns at a higher temperature and slower rate than paraffin, so you get more burn for your buck.
In the long run, beeswax candles can actually be cheaper!
We hope you enjoy your
beeswax candles as much as we do!
